Duracell have designed a brand new Procell Intense 9V 6LR61 alkaline battery specifically for use in ambulatory syringe pumps. The Duracell Procell Intense battery was developed and sent for testing to BD, the manufacturers of the of the BD Bodyguard™ T and CME T34™ Syringe Pumps, together with other batteries from various battery manufactuers. BD themselves then carried out an indepth observational study of how all these batteries performed. 

The conclusions of the study were that batteries with low impedance may indicate a favourable outcome with regard to early alarms and pump shutdown. Higher battery impedance will cause larger voltage dips which are more likely to trigger alarms. Battery brands with a higher impedance are more likely to have early battery alarm events reported than batteries with lower impedance. So the lower the battery impedance the better the performance.

Test Results: 

It was also found that batteries with a lower impedance had the longest run time of the batteries tested. The Duracell Procell Intense battery had the lowest impedance of all the batteries tested. At just 1.10 to 1.37 ohms during these tests this battery also had the longest run time on average of 86 hours 37 minutes, almost 7 hours longer than it's nearest alternative. The battery with the second lowest impedance was Duracell Plus. 

Inner boxes of 10 and outer cases of 50 these batteries have less packaging than normal retail packed consumer batteries making them easier to use in large quantities by clinical users in hospitals and hospices.
